Disclaimer

This blog ran for more than two years with no graphics--and it received about 50 page views. I was advised to add graphics; after seeing the huge public that followed blogs dedicated to homoerotic images, I decided to use that kind. The result was a dramatically increased number of monthly page views, and the number has remained fairly steady. Most of the images were found on the internet; although they are assumed to be in the public domain, they are identified as far as possible. They are exhibited under the Fair Use protections of United States copyright law: their function is simply to attract readers to the poems--I receive no economic benefit from them or from the blog. Nevertheless, they will be removed if they are copyrighted and the owner so desires. 1260 x 290

MAYAN APOCALYPSE! RUN FOR COVER!

The fright merchants should do it like the seers of Fatima and Medjugorje: put it off to an indefinite future and then let your imagination riot.  The Fatima predictions are not for the faint of heart! Orc-like demons that roast screaming sinners make only a part of it.  Another part is the necessity of torturing ourselves to atone, to make reparation for thousands of years of the sins of millions of sinners, including us.  All these visions seem to be inspired by "Hell Raiser" or "Damien,"  etc., etc. ... or perhaps they inspired those cinematic gems.

The predictions of Medjugorje are more poetic. They speak of the switching of the electromagnetic poles,
among other things, and a time when "not a wheel will turn" on earth.

Anyway, you go, guys and ghouls!

3 From THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF EMILY DICKINSON

Before—a Plank between two Cliffs—
Slant over the Abyss—
Behind me—Clouds—that mourn and lower
Throughout Eternities—

Horizons of wide Silence—List—
As—less than Decimal—
I feel the Universe lean down—
To watch when I shall fall—

2 From THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF EMILY DICKINSON

Christ may love you—I must not—
My white Calvary—be
Perfect like That—without the Taint
Of sad Carnality—

Lepers—God enjoins—in Love—
Law—casts out—Unclean—
“Vox Populi Vox Dei”
Festers in Irony—

OMG! OH MY GOD!!! BRAD PITT’S MOTHER PENS ANTI-GAY-MARRIAGE LETTER!!! [To Mormon senator and presidential candidate Mitt Romney]

I was reading a certain blog and I found this, which is worthy of mention:
OMG!  OH MY GOD!!!  BRAD PITT'S MOTHER (Jane Pitt) PENS ANTI-GAY-MARRIAGE LETTER!!!

Then I found the following mini-course in civil-rights law in the Comments of a popular website, and it is so good that I had to post it here:
Well, now we know why Jane's family is known as "the Pitts." (I hereby renounce any inspiration relating to "Pitt bullshit".) .... Marriage is a civil status like incorporation--indeed, it is a kind of incorporation. Through marriage, the state recognizes the common rights and obligations of two people. These include the right to shared property and the obligation to honor debts contracted by the couple. And tax breaks and other arrangements with the state are also included. The rights and obligations of marriage are civil rights and therefore they may not be denied to any adult citizens capable of functioning as members of the state. Marriage is not "matrimony." "Matrimony" is a religious value/concept which is not shared by all--not even all Christian churches admit it as a "sacrament"--and as a religious concept it cannot be imposed by some citizens on others who do not share their religious views. Marriage is a civil right, and American States must cease to deny the full exercise of this right to their citizens.

1 from THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF EMILY DICKINSON

I’ve run to welcome—Absence—
To greet—a closing Door—
And hurried after Echoes—Footsteps—
Still recede before—

A Mountain or a Desert—
Were easier—to arrest—
Than embrace a flickering—Shadow—
As it vanishes—

To try—to apprehend—a Phantom
Requires exhausting Toil—
Nature abhors a Vacuum—I’ll
Avoid a Void—
